Do you remember the movie <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fantasia_(film)\" target=\"_blank\">Fantasia<\/a>? The pegasus part was always my favorite &#8211; I still love drawing fantasy creatures like dragons and pegasii &#8211; these are all original pen and ink drawings of flying horses done with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000KNJ1SE\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B000KNJ1SE&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=ruthblea-20&amp;linkId=U7E3TVSYAYU47RLN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Winsor &amp; Newton<\/a> drawing ink and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0008G8G8Y\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B0008G8G8Y&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=ruthblea-20&amp;linkId=KDDPTQWY7CC5S6KS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Micron .005<\/a> pen.<\/p>\n<p>I love dioramas because they can make your 2-D art come alive!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9\" title=\"Pegasus papercut diorama shadowbox by Ruth Bleakley\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/cimg3241.jpg\" alt=\"Pegasus papercut diorama shadowbox by Ruth Bleakle\" width=\"600\" height=\"376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/cimg3241.jpg 718w, https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/cimg3241-300x188.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here is the finished diorama &#8211; I made the box from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0025TZ298\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B0025TZ298&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=ruthblea-20&amp;linkId=FZ5LNV42HZNGNNFX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">binders board<\/a> and painted the inside blue and the outside black. The little pegasii at the top appear to be suspended in the air and are held out from the back of the box by paper tabs. All of the drawings were done on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00251AIO0\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B00251AIO0&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=ruthblea-20&amp;linkId=E5UBC3SA2XJTOU6E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">watercolor paper<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12 size-full\" title=\"Cutting out clouds on a pegasus diorama by Ruth Bleakley\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/cimg3224.jpg\" alt=\"Cutting out clouds on a pegasus diorama by Ruth Bleakley\" width=\"450\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/cimg3224.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/cimg3224-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/cimg3224-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>First I drew everything on thick cold-press <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00251AIO0\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B00251AIO0&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=ruthblea-20&amp;linkId=E5UBC3SA2XJTOU6E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">watercolor paper<\/a>, after that I inked it using a brush\u00c2\u00a0 &#8211; it&#8217;s important to let the ink from the drawing dry completely first before you paint over it in ink, or it will blur.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-11 size-full\" title=\"Using small scissors I carefully cut out my drawings of the flying horses - handmade diorama by Ruth Bleakley\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/cimg3222-e1428690399349.jpg\" alt=\"Using small scissors I carefully cut out my drawings of the flying horses - handmade diorama by Ruth Bleakley\" width=\"450\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I use very thin sharp <a href=\"a%20href=&quot;http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0013JNERS\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B0013JNERS&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=ruthblea-20&amp;linkId=UGX5QHVEQ4JRY3DV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">decoupage scissors<\/a> to cut out tiny pieces of paper &#8211; the pointy ends of the scissors make it easy to go around tight corners. As you can see, I staggered the clouds and also made those that were farther away darker.
