While relatively easy, there are still a few things that can go wrong while you&#8217;re marbling, so here are some tips if you&#8217;re running into trouble on your marbled paper. If the water in your water bath is gray and murky, change the whole water bath and make sure to skim the surface before you dip your brush in.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Problem: Suminagashi ink rings are blurry after you make a print<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1492\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Suinagashi-Troubleshooting-5.jpg\" alt=\"Suinagashi-Troubleshooting-5\" width=\"475\" height=\"329\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Suinagashi-Troubleshooting-5.jpg 475w, https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Suinagashi-Troubleshooting-5-300x207.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Suinagashi-Troubleshooting-5-450x311.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Suinagashi-Troubleshooting-5-150x103.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Suinagashi-Troubleshooting-5-400x277.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 475px) 100vw, 475px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Answer:<\/strong>\u00a0Too much ink &#8211; try holding your brush in the water for less time, so that less ink is deposited on the surface of the water, and\/or after you make a print, submerse the entire sheet of paper under the water bath and gently shake back and forth to dislodge extra ink. (they can also be a neat effect to experiment with)<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Problem:<\/strong>Suminagashi ink rings aren&#8217;t expanding<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1490\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Suinagashi-Troubleshooting-3.jpg\" alt=\"Suinagashi-Troubleshooting-3\" width=\"475\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Suinagashi-Troubleshooting-3.jpg 475w, https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Suinagashi-Troubleshooting-3-300x193.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Suinagashi-Troubleshooting-3-450x290.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Suinagashi-Troubleshooting-3-150x96.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ruthbleakley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Suinagashi-Troubleshooting-3-400x258.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 475px) 100vw, 475px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Answer:<\/strong> Skim the surface of the water with newspaper strips thoroughly before you start adding ink to the water &#8211; dust trapped on the surface increases surface tension, and doesn&#8217;t allow rings to expand properly.
