\"Cutting<\/p>\n

Photo 1:<\/strong> Chelsea’s illustration shows a long rock wall, and the outlines of lichens along the wall – I wanted to give a close-up look at the lichens and I was inspired by Chelsea’s work in embroidered lichens<\/a>, so I started by cutting little pieces of paper into the different “fronds” on the lichen.<\/p>\n

Photo 2:<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0Here are all the little organic shapes I cut out with scissors (I ended up needing about three times as many as you see here), I began arranging them into lichen shapes – you can see one emerging in the upper right.<\/p>\n

Photo 3:<\/strong> Here’s a formative lichen – I decided I wanted a little pop of color and that’s where the thin bronze paper came in. I was inspired by some of the orange lichens in Chelsea’s embroidery work, which you can see below:<\/p>\n
