I’ve gotten a lot of requests for books that will fit in a pocket or that little zipper pocket in a purse, so that people can jot down notes to themselves, phone numbers and other reminders, without having to use the back of an old receipt!

Here are three beautiful notebooks handmade by me, created using Japanese handmade paper created using the chiyogami silk screen technique which involves up to five layers of paint applied to the paper, giving the final paper a depth unseen in typically printed papers. One of the books features little fish swimming together in a pond – even cuter in real life! The red paper has a striking pattern of gold that the computer screen just can’t do justice. The red and blue lotus flower paper is printed using an ancient technique for printing kimonos called “katagami” where ink is painted through a paper stencil.

All three books were hand cut, folded and sewn by me. The packaging makes them a great gift – each one has a “handmade original book by Ruth Bleakley” stamp in the back.
