Teaching Suminagashi at Clark University

Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting the Book Arts class at my alma mater, Clark University where I was a guest artist and taught the class Suminagashi marbling. The class went really well – twelve participants marbled over a hundred sheets of paper!
Check out the gallery to see some lovely suminagashi in progress – [...]

Intermediate Bookbinding Class

I think it’s finally time to write up a post about the Falmouth Community School Intermediate bookbinding class! On the wake of the Beginning Bookbinding Class, six intrepid bookbinders continued on to learn coptic stitch binding. Our first class we did a type of paper marbling called Suminagashi where we created papers with neat black [...]

movie time!

I have big plans afoot to create some bookbinding instructional videos – but first I have to learn how to edit movies – fortunately imovie is pretty easy to figure out – I humbly present my first attempt at a movie created by yours truly

Morning Bike Ride – AND my first movie ever! from Ruth [...]

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everybody! Here’s a little Christmas craft project I indulged in since we’re lucky enough to have a holly bush (more like a tree really) in our yard.

This is what happens when the cat “helps” me repair books.

We had a big snowstorm overnight, with a total accumulation of 15 inches of snow! I stayed in and worked on a book repair job (both covers fallen off, and no spine) and Meowstro the cat decided to “help” – I thought she should go enjoy the snow instead.

Do you hate Papyrus?

Here’s a really neat Etsy product – a san-serif wall hanging featuring your favorite san-serif fonts (Futura is my favorite) made from laser-cut wood!

For $60 from PepperSprout’s etsy shop , ships out mid-january

New Paper Scrap Swap!

I joined Swap-bot a couple months ago and it’s been really fun. It’s a site that facilitates snail-mail swaps on a variety of topics – I’ve been part of two ATC (artist trading card) swaps, a small package swaps where you included one thing red, one thing blue and one thing yellow, and now I’m [...]

Webster’s Pictorial Dictionary

I’m currently lusting after Webster’s Pictorial Dictionary by Chronicle Books. We have a copy here at the Paper Tyger that I lovingly look through – it’s a hefty little book, about two inches thick, and about 7″x9″.

An excerpt from the back cover reads:
“Featuring more than 1,500 engravings that originally graced the pages of 19th-century Webster’s [...]

Yummy Strawberries!

I love small cute things and the alpine strawberries I’ve been growing the past two years totally fit the bill. They grow perfectly here on Cape Cod (did you know that Cape Cod was the top producer of strawberries east of the Mississippi at the turn of the 20th century?) which is fortunate because I [...]

Cute Thank You Notes!

I purchased these adorable thank you cards from the Paper Tyger in Falmouth, MA – they are super duper cute! You can buy them on their website too – they are letter-pressed on 100% recycled paper and made in New York. The letterpress gives the card a nice embossed feel. The only strange thing I [...]
