When I was working in a library a few summers ago I came across a beautiful old map of Boston from 1858 – I made several copies of it, and one of them I used on the cover of this book.
After transferring the image on to silk using a solvent transfer method, I painted [...] Tiny red poppy drawings. [...] I use a lot of snap-off utility knife blades when cutting through paper and cardboard – I was surprised when I opened the latest package to find little crystalized patches of rust on the back of one of the blades. I think they look like cool cross sections of wood.
